County of Grande Prairie encourages residents to create a pet emergency plan

Mar 22, 2024 | 6:00 AM

The County of Grande Prairie is encouraging residents to have an emergency plan that involves all of their family, including pets, as wildfire season is upon us.

Last year, the Peace region saw several evacuations due to these wildfires, which resulted in some pets being left behind.

Now, the county wants residents to be prepared, suggesting they put together a pet emergency kit, consisting of food, toys, medications and anything else animals may need to be away from home for a few days.

The county says in a release that “pet safety matters just as much as yours.”
