UPDATE: Final match-up set at the provincial mixed curling championship

UPDATE 3: It will be Sexsmith’s Kurt Balderston playing Sherwood Park’s Warren Cross in the final of the Curling Alberta Mixed Provincials.

Balderston beat Sexsmith’s Graham Powell 7-2 in six ends in one semi-final Sunday morning.

Cross downed Grande Prairie’s Rob Maksymetz 4-3 in the other semi-final game.

The final starts at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

UPDATE 2: It will be Graham Powell versus Kurt Balderston and Warren Cross taking on Rob Maksymetz in Sunday’s semi-finals at the Curling Alberta Mixed Provincials.

Balderston beat Colin Griffith 5-4 while Cross defeated Michael Lambert 9-1 in five ends in Saturday’s quarter-final round games. Powell and Maksymetz advanced to the semis after winning their A Event qualifiers.

The semi-final games start at 9 a.m. Sunday, the final at 2 p.m., at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

UPDATE: Quarter-final match-ups are now set at the Curling Alberta Mixed Provincials being played at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

One game will see Sexsmith’s Kurt Balderston playing Grande Prairie’s Colin Griffith.

Balderston beat Coaldale’s Jodi Vaughan 6-3 in a B Event qualifier. Griffith defeated Wainwright’s Colin Tanton 8-1 in six ends in a C Event qualifier.

The winner will play Grande Prairie’s Rob Maksymetz in Sunday morning’s semi-finals.

The other quarter-final will see Edmonton’s Michael Lambert play Sherwood Park’s Warren Cross. Cross defeated Griffith 6-5 in the B Event. Lambert beat Vaughan 7-2 in the C Event

The winner plays Sexsmith’s Graham Powell in the semi-finals.

The quarter-finals will be played at 5 p.m. Saturday, with the semi-finals at 9 a.m. Sunday and the final at 2 p.m Sunday.

Two local rinks have advanced to the playoffs at the provincial mixed curling championship taking place at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

Grande Prairie’s Rob Maksymetz beat Sexsmith’s Kurt Balderston 6-3 while Sexsmith’s Graham Powell downed Sherwood Park’s Warren Cross 4-3 in the A Event qualifiers Friday afternoon. Maksymetz and Powell have advanced directly to Sunday’s semi-finals.

Balderston plays Jodi Vaughn of Coaldale and Cross meets Grande Prairie’s Colin Griffith in a B Event qualifiers at 7 p.m. Friday.

Doug Small beat Marcus Luckwell 9-1 in five ends in a C Event game played Friday afternoon.

Small plays Wainwright’s Colin Tanton for a spot in a C Event qualifier at in the Friday evening draw.
