City of Grande Prairie reminds residents of its prohibited “Wheeled Conveyances”

Apr 3, 2024 | 3:51 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is reminding residents to use the appropriate personal transportation when travelling through the City’s trails, paths and parklands.

The City’s Parkland Bylaw refers to these machines as Wheeled Conveyances, with machines like Vespa-style scooters, GenZe scooters, Juiced Scramblers, CSC City Slickers, golf carts, golf boards, and similar-style vehicles being prohibited from all paths and trails, unless the user has a permit.

However, certain types of electric machines are allowed, if used responsibly, such as hoverboards, electric bikes, and segways, alongside standard forms of manual transportation, like bikes, skateboards, and rollerblades.

With the warmer weather approaching, residents are being reminded of these bylaws to “ensure that our parklands remain a safe and enjoyable place for everyone” according to Managing Director of Enforcement Services, Helen Napier.

Additionally, the City said all gas or diesel-powered vehicles are also banned from all paths, trails and parks, such as ATV’s Ski-Doos, vehicles and dirt bikes.

Napier added; “Whether you’re on a bike, a skateboard, or enjoying a peaceful walk, remember to share the space respectfully and abide by the rules set forth for everyone’s benefit.”
