Dr. Vanessa Sheane nominated for 2024 Friends of Education Award

Northwestern Polytechnic President and CEO Dr. Vanessa Sheane, has been nominated for the Alberta School Board Association’s 2024 Friends of Education Award.

In a release, the Peace River School Division says the board voted unanimously for Dr. Sheane; as she is “someone who has cultivated a strong and positive relationship with educational community members, characterized by mutual respect, collaboration and a shared commitment to enhancing academic quality and opportunities.”

As Dr. Sheane is from Fairview and an “advocate for northern education opportunities,” PRSD feels under her leadership there is a “potential to transform the educational landscape for Fairview.”

“Under Dr. Sheane’s guidance, NWP has broadened the educational options available at the Fairview NWP campus, signalling a strategic shift towards more diverse offerings.”

Specifically, Dr. Sheane was selected by PRSD for her “willingness to enter a partnership” with the school district. This led to establishing the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy, which motivates students to finish high school and earn credits while obtaining Class 1 MELT driver training.

Dr. Sheane’s nomination will now move on to the Zone Selection Committee, where if selected, she will be recognized at the Alberta School Board Association’s Fall General Meeting.
