County of Grande Prairie upgrades fire advisory to a fire restriction
After the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services sent out a release yesterday (Monday, April 8) asking residents to “refrain from burning, if possible.” The County has upgraded it’s fire advisory to a fire restriction.
Under this restriction, the entire county, including the Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley, can use three forms of permitted burning; approved recreational fire pits, approved burn barrels and propane fired appliances such as barbecues smokers and fire pits.
Residents are also being reminded to never burn when winds exceed 12 kilometres per hour and to go back and check winter burn sites for any hotspots or winter hold-over fires
At this time, Regional Fire Services says it has been busy fighting brush fires and has responded to 14 calls over the past ten days.
