City of Grande Prairie issues fire restriction

Effective immediately a fire restriction is in effect for the City of Grande Prairie.

The City issued the advisory due to current dry weather conditions increasing the risk of fire spread, and to support their ongoing commitment to public safety.

Under the restriction, all outdoor fires not contained with a non-combustible fire pit are prohibited, as are wood campfires in the backcountry and the use of fireworks and exploding targets.

At this time, campfires within a metal, brick or rock fire ring and are on a non-combustible surface that extends at least one metre around the fire are still allowed, provided there is at least one responsible person in attendance to keep it under control.
