Wildfire Danger Rating high for Slave Lake Forest Area

The Wildfire danger rating for the Slave Lake Forest Area has climbed to High.

Due to strong gusty winds Tuesday and Wednesday, firefighters are urging everyone in the area to use caution when working or recreating in the outdoors, as areas of dead grass will ignite easily and can spread quickly.

Above seasonal temperatures are expected today, with forecasts calling for wind from the west gusting up to 60-70 kilometres per hour and a high of ten degrees with a low chance of rain or flurries.

Anyone who sees a wildfire is asked to report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

Over the next several weeks, firefighters will be burning areas of dead dry grass around Slave Lake Forest Area to minimize wildfire fuel sources.
