Canada’s Bibic takes gold, men’s sprint team wins bronze at UCI Track Nations Cup

MILTON, Ont. — Canadian cyclist Dylan Bibic outlasted his competition and captured gold at the UCI Track Nations Cup on Friday.

The 20-year-old Mississauga, Ont., native was the last rider on the track in the men’s elimination race, finishing ahead of Japan’s Shunsuke Imamura (silver) and Mark Stewart of Great Britain (bronze).

Canadians also got on the podium in the men’s team sprint event, where Ryan Dodyk, James Hedgecock and Tyler Rorke took bronze and qualified for this summer’s Paris Olympics. The Netherlands finished first and Great Britain took silver.

Olympic gold medallist Kelsey Mitchell and her teammates Lauriane Genest and Sarah Orban finished just off the podium, coming fourth in team sprint after Poland beat them in the bronze medal round. The Netherlands came first and Mexico finished second.

The women’s team pursuit also saw Canada finish fourth, with Erin Attwell, Ariane Bonhomme, Maggie Coles-Lyster and Sarah Van Dam losing to France in the bronze final. Great Britain took gold and Italy won silver.

Van Dam also came fourth in the women’s elimination race.

The UCI Track Nations Cup continues through Sunday.
