Grande Prairie Police Service unveil new vehicles and uniforms

The Grande Prairie Police Service has unveiled its new vehicles.

Two new police cars were put on display for a media event in front of Centre 2000 on Wednesday, to show off the cars as well as the new police uniforms.

GPPS Chief Dwayne Lakusta says the two cars will be on the road to drum up future police recruits, with more vehicles to come in September.

“We’re receiving another ten in September, and then we’re just going to be assessing based on our deployment how many vehicles we need,” Lakusta says, “We want to make sure that we’re running a very efficient police service, so we’ll be conducting an assessment of how many vehicles we’ll need for our purposes.”

Lakusta says the GPPS will operate like RCMP, but with all resources for serious incidents and organized crime to be embedded in house.

“Whether that’s going to be investigating a homicide,” he says. “We’re going to have all those resources embedded within our deployment. So no matter what the call for service is, we’re going to be able to provide that response in a timely matter.”

Lakusta will be officially sworn in as police chief on Friday.
