Highway 2 closed near Slave Lake due to wildfire

Slave Lake RCMP are on the scene of a rapidly progressing wildfire near Canyon Creek.

Mounties say Highway 2, between Seppola Drive/RR 80 and Centre Avenue, though a larger stretch of highway may be closed as the fire progresses.

Visibility on Highway 2 has been greatly reduced due to wildfire smoke.

The public is asked to avoid travel in the area (between Slave Lake and Kinuso) as the situation unfolds.

Citizens living in the area as being asked to remain vigilant and keep up to date on the status of the fire and firefighting efforts. Mounties say to anyone who feels unsafe, is encouraged to leave and re-entry will be possible once the area is deemed safe again.
