Peace Regional RCMP thanking a long list of people that responded to the Shaftesbury Trail Fire

Apr 24, 2024 | 3:42 PM

Peace Regional RCMP are saying thank you to a long list of emergency services and other individuals and groups that helped with the Shaftesbury Trail Fire.

That included help evacuating the Peace River Correctional Centre.

Mounties are thanking the Peace River School Divisions in supplying buses, and the drivers for coming right away to transport the 174 inmates to the Peace Regional, Spirit River, Valleyview, High Prairie, Slave Lake and Lakeshore detachments. The buses had police escorts.

RCMP members from the Traffic Unit and Western Alberta District office in Grande Prairie, K Division, Alberta’s Tactical Support Group and the Fairview, McLennan and Manning detachments were all called in to help.

Police add the fire departments from Fairview, Grimshaw, Peace River and St. Isadore, Alberta Sheriffs, Fish and Wildlife, Correctional Officers, Alberta Forestry, water bombers and helicopters also helped with fighting the fire, containing the scene and evacuation efforts, among other things.

All this help came after RCMP asked for assistance for the Rural Alberta Provincial Integrated Defense Response.

Police are also saying thank you to local farmers and other community members who helped out.
