Apr 25, 2024 | 6:01 AM

Alberta Health Services says the first Type B Continuing Care Home spaces in Spirit River will open later this year at the new Pleasant View Lodge.

These used to be called designated supportive living units.

They are expected to be available sometime in the early summer.

A release from AHS says Pleasant View Lodge will include 52 of these spaces, with half of them for people with dementia.

“With the addition of supportive living spaces in Spirit River, we empower our residents to transition from lodge to supportive living care, assisting them to age gracefully in the familiarity of their home community,” says Grande Spirit Foundation board chair Judy Kokotilo-Bekkerus in that same release.

The facility will also have 40 lodge spaces.

The Grande Spirit Foundation will look manage Pleasant View Lodge and look after accommodation services. AHS will be responsible for the health care needs of care home residents.

The provincial and federal governments provided $24 million in funding for the new building.

The group Friends of Grande Spirit Foundation says on its social media page that a grand opening is planned for June 1.
