Shaftesbury Trail Fire evacuation order lifted

Apr 25, 2024 | 1:06 PM

The MD of Peace says residents in the evacuation zone from the Shaftesbury Trail Fire are allowed to go back to their homes.

The municipality said in it’s Thursday morning update, that power lines were damaged from the fire and that ATCO is re-energizing the main line and services at individual residences, as they were shut off during the blaze.

ATCO has planned multiple outages due to the immense damages to repair the power poles and lines safely.

Planned power outages for Shaftesbury Settlement residents are:

  • Friday, April 26 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 27 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 28 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The fire is still being classified as held and the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard estimates the size at 1,500 hectares.

The MD of Peace says damage would have been a lot worse without the work of first responders.

One home was seriously damaged. Some outbuildings and vehicles were lost.

There is also a fire ban in the Town of Peace River and MD of Peace.
