Art Unity Collective showcasing artwork by Grande Prairie’s vulnerable population

Apr 29, 2024 | 3:55 PM

A gala event happening in mid-May will showcase artwork created by Grande Prairie residents with disabilities or experiencing homelessness.

The Art Unity Collective is a pilot project from Centerpoint Facilitation Inc. displaying artwork in various downtown businesses to raise awareness of artistic talents within our community.

Program Facilitator Cindy Trepanier says Centerpoint believes in an inclusive approach while supporting people experiencing homelessness and living with a developmental disability.

“All of our artists are local to Grande Prairie and the artists are people that we assist,” Trepanier says. “It’s important to us that we showcase their unique talent while also supporting inclusive community involvement.”

Trepanier says twelve businesses are participating in the program to display the artwork before it is purchased, with the proceeds going directly to the artist.

“Grande Prairie business owners have been a huge support to community events for many years,” she says. “Showcasing art from a more vulnerable population, assisting in creating a further inclusive community in Grande Prairie.”

She says the artwork will be presented at the gala event happening on May 16.

“Featuring the artwork that is displayed in the downtown core, that is from April 22 to May 15,” she says. “The public is welcome and all proceeds from the exhibits will go directly to the artists.”
