Fundraising campaign for Maskwa Medical Centre officially underway

May 2, 2024 | 6:00 AM

A campaign to raise money to build the proposed Maskwa Medical Centre has officially launched.

The 100,000 square foot facility that will include teaching and diagnostic clinics will be built near the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Organizers say in a news release that they have set an “ambitious target of $35 million for the first phase of the project.”

The hope is to start construction this year and finish by 2026.

The City and County of Grande Prairie and the MD of Greenview have each contributed $500,000. A total of close to $2 million is already in place.

Maskwa Chair Ken Drysdale says in the same release he is grateful for the “overwhelming community support received thus far.”

“The enthusiasm and backing from our community propel us toward achieving our ambitious goal. As a community, we will build this facility, and ensure that its operating at its full capacity to serve our region.”

Maskwa has partnered with the Northwestern Alberta Foundation in this effort.

“We are privileged to join forces on this pivotal endeavor for the people of Northwestern Alberta. Our role as facilitators of the community support is important, and we are eager to work with donors and the Maskwa team to this important goal,” says NAF CEO Laura LaValley in the same release.
