High Prairie RCMP arrest three suspects after an Atikameg shooting

High Prairie RCMP, with support from four other RCMP agencies, were involved in a vehicle and foot chase in April.

The incident began when High Prairie officers received a report about a shooting in Atikameg and attended the scene.

Mounties then learned the suspect vehicle, a black pickup truck, had fled the scene, but was then located shortly after.

High Prairie RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled again, leading to a vehicle pursuit and officers calling in for assistance.

Slave Lake RCMP, Faust RCMP, Red Earth Creek RCMP, and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services; all responded, leading to a tire deflation device being used on the suspect vehicle.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, two of the suspects fled on foot while one remained in the vehicle. Police Dog Services then led the chase and apprehended both suspects.

The suspect vehicle was then searched with Mountie’s seizing two rifles and ammunition.

As a result of this investigation, the trio is facing 41 charges combined:

Kelly Blanche Cardinal, 26, a resident of Peace River is charged with:

• Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Three other firearm-related offences
• Dangerous driving
• Failure to stop for peace officer
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Three counts of failure to comply with an order

Jack George Auger, 24, a resident of Atikameg, is charged with:

• Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Five other firearm-related offences
• Dangerous driving
• Failure to stop for peace officer
• Obstruct police officer
• Possession of property obtained by crime

Kevin Badge, 22, a resident of Gift Lake Metis Settlement, is charged with:

• Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Five other firearm-related offences
• Dangerous driving
• Obstruct a police officer
• Failure to stop for a police officer
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Eight counts of failure to comply with an order or recognizance

All three will have a joint court date in High Prairie on Friday, May 6.
