City Hall issues fire ban for Grande Prairie

May 8, 2024 | 1:07 PM

A fire ban is now in place in Grande Prairie.

City Hall says in a release that it is putting the ban in place because of the dry weather and fire hazard.

The ban means that all fire permits are now suspended and that any fires now burning must be put out.

Any outdoor recreational fires, with the exception of natural gas, propane or electric barbeques, gas fire pits and infrared heaters, are also banned.

Burning barrels, wood fires in campgrounds, along with the use of exploding targets and fireworks, have also been banned.

“This fire ban is a crucial measure to protect our community and its natural surroundings. Compliance with these restrictions is vital for everyone’s safety. We’re grateful for the community’s support and cooperation in helping prevent potential wildfires,” says Fire Chief Mark VanWerkhoven in a release from the city.
