One-time civil servant picked to be next ethics commissioner

May 9, 2024 | 6:33 PM

A former Alberta government senior civil servant is now poised to become the next provincial ethics commissioner.

A legislature committee has recommended Shawn McLeod for the post, which involves making sure politicians in the house follow ethics rules.

McLeod is a former deputy minister for labour relations.

The Opposition N-D-P is questioning the appointment, saying the job is supposed to be non-partisan but that McLeod once ran for a nomination for the governing United Conservatives.
