UPDATE: Grande Prairie’s special air quality statement back in effect
The special air quality statement in effect for the northwestern Alberta area was lifted earlier. However, Environment Canada put it back in place today at 12:30 p.m.
The air quality statement went into effect early on Saturday, May 11 with a large amount of smoke in the air due to the Vahalla and Teepee Creek wildfires, as well as fires in Northern B.C caused by falling branches hitting power lines.
The air quality statement was then lifted for a short while today, before being re-instated.
At this time, Environment Canada suggests residents “stop, or reduce your activity level if breathing becomes uncomfortable, or you or someone in your care feel unwell.”
