Grande Prairie Forest Area

The rain has dropped the wildfire hazard rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area to moderate.

A fire ban is still in place, meaning that all existing fire permits are suspended or cancelled and no new ones are being issued. All outdoor wood fires are banned.

Fire watchers say the Kleskun Creek Fire is being held at 1382 hectares. Alberta Wildfire is helping the County of Grande Prairie with this fire.

The wildfire 13 kilometres north of Valhalla is being held at 100 hectares.

High Level Forest Area

The fire hazard in the High Level Forest Area is still rated extreme. A fire ban is also in effect in that area.

Fire watchers in that area say they are seeing “moderate-to-intense fire behaviour ” from the Cameron Hills wildfire, one that burned into Alberta from the Northwest Territories on May 10.

There are 72 firefighters, eight helicopters, and 16 pieces working on a containment line to stop its spread and to protect infrastructure.

The High Level Forest Area currently has eleven under control fires, eight of which are carryovers from 2023, along with one that is being held.

There are also three fires shared with B.C and one with Wood Buffalo National Park. The shared fire with the Fort McMurray Forest Area is being held at 378 hectares.
