Fire ban lifted for the Grande Prairie Forest Area

May 22, 2024 | 12:39 PM

The fire ban for the Grande Prairie Forest Area has been lifted and the current wildfire danger now sits at low, thanks to the recent precipitation.

As of 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 22), it joined the city and county in lifting the ban, which both communities replaced with a restriction.

All burning now inside the Grande Prairie Forest Area will require a permit, which can be accessed online by clicking here.

Currently, 175.9 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area have been burned since the start of the year.

There is only one carryover fire from 2023 that is still active. It is listed as under control.

Anyone wanting more information about the current fire restrictions in place can visit the Alberta Fire Bans website.
