Highlights from Tuesday’s meeting of city council

May 22, 2024 | 6:00 AM

Council discussed a couple other things at its meeting on Tuesday, May 21.

– Council endorsed having Mayor Jackie Clayton run for a spot on the Board of Directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. The FCM lobbies the federal government on behalf of municipalities like Alberta Municipalities does at a provincial level. Grande Prairie Councillor Dylan Bressey is on that group’s Board of Directors. The FCM’s annual convention is set for June 6-9 in Calgary.

– Council has added a section on decommissioning to its playground strategy. This would be for old ones that are not being used anymore. It contains rules for proximity to other amenities before decommissioning can happen. There is a provision the city could go ahead with if a playground is deemed unsafe.

Council’s next meeting is set for June 3.
