NWP shares a pair of power engineering announcements

May 23, 2024 | 6:00 AM

Northwestern Polytechnic has made a pair of announcements regarding their power engineering program in Grande Prairie.

New Diploma

A new two-year power engineering technology diploma will start in the Fall 2024 semester at the NWP Grande Prairie campus.

Renovations are underway on the current power engineering lab at the school, the institution says students will use the “existing facility and equipment” until they transition to the new lab in 2026.

NWP President and CEO Dr. Vanessa Sheane says this new programming was “carefully developed with the needs of our industry partners and surrounding communities in mind.”

Funding support needed

A call for funding support of $5 million has been put out, as their “state-of-the art lab renovation” now carries a price tag of $16 million.

That is $4.7 million more then what was supplied by the province for the project, with NWP crediting “a distinctive learning environment that benefits both students and industry,” for the increase.
