173 impaired drivers caught over Victoria Day long weekend

From May 17 to 20, 2023, Alberta RCMP were conducting enhanced traffic enforcement for the Victoria Day long weekend.

Mounties aimed to find and take impaired drivers off the roads, and police efforts were successful.

There was a total of 173 impaired drivers removed from the road, 42 of which happened on National Impaired Driving Day through 36 organized check stops.

Consequences for impaired driving include a 90-day driving suspension, one year of mandatory ignition interlock, a 30-day vehicle seizure, a $1,000 fine, and a criminal record.

Sgt. Vinnie Hetu with the Alberta RCMP Traffic said in a release, “Impaired driving is a danger to yourself and others. Always plan a safe, sober ride accordingly.”
