UPDATE Fire near Crystal Lake is now out

UPDATE 2: The city says the fire started at around 6 p.m. Sunday.

The fire department sent out eight pieces of equipment plus called in off-duty firefighters.

Crews established a defensive line to protect nearby properties.

The blaze was stopped before it reached that defensive line and was declared under control by 8 p.m.

The investigation into the cause continues.

UPDATE 1:: Grande Prairie RCMP say the fire near Crystal Lake is now out.

The roadblocks that were up earlier are no longer in place and traffic flow has resumed on 116 Avenue.

The walking trails are closed and fire crews are still working to put out hot spots.

Grande Prairie RCMP say there are no evacuation orders in place and no properties are threatened by a fire in the Crystal Lake area.

Mounties have roadblocks set up at 92 Street and Lakeland Drive on 116 Avenue..

Emergency crews were called out late Sunday afternoon/early Sunday evening.

The fire appears to be located in some trees south of the parking lot at Crystal Lake Park.

There was thick smoke impacting visibility along 116 Avenue at one point.

There is no word at this time on how the fire started. There will be more updates as they become available.
