Seeding in the Peace still ahead of the five-year average

May 28, 2024 | 1:45 PM

The most recent crop report from Alberta Agriculture says that just over 70 per cent of the crop in the Peace had been seeded as of May 21.

The five-year average for that time of year is just under 44 per cent.

The breakdown by crop is just over 80 per cent for spring wheat, just under 75 per cent for dry peas, just under 70 per cent for canola, 57.5 per cent for barley and 55 per cent for oats.

The report says some crops that were seeded in the Peace last fall were plowed under and reseeded because of low plant counts.
