Tanker truck rollover closes Emerson Trail

UPDATE 2:

Single-lane traffic is now open on Emerson Trail as of 10:00 p.m. Monday, June 3.

Hazardous materials crews have successfully completed the transfer of sour condensate from the overturned tanker truck.

The scene has been handed over to Alberta Environment and the trucking company to ensure the remediation of the spill site is completed.

On-site flagging personnel will remain on site until the tanker truck is removed, the roadway is expected to open in both directions once it’s gone.

UPDATE 1:

The County of Grande Prairie has provided an update on the ongoing tanker rollover that’s closed Emerson Trail.

They ask residents to keep avoiding the area, as hazardous materials crews continue to unload the contents of the rolled tanker.

At this time, no injuries have been reported and the County says drivers should expect Emerson Trail, between Range Road 93 and 95 to remain closed until further notice.

County Regional Fire crews are asking residents to avoid the area of Highway 672, (Emerson Trail) and Range Road 94, as a tanker truck has rolled over.

County regional crews, along with Hythe, Clairmont, La Glace and Wembley fire crews are on the scene and no injuries have been reported.

The tanker truck is spilling sour condensate and hazardous materials teams are on the scene, but crews expect to be there for a while.

Currently, Emerson Trail is now closed between Range Road 93 and 95, with local traffic asked to find an alternate route.

In the release, the County said “at this time, this does not pose an immediate threat to public safety.”
