Sidewalk Patio Program open for applications

Jun 4, 2024 | 11:14 AM

Businesses wanting to offer customers an outdoor dining experience during our long summers can now do so.

The City of Grande Prairie has opened applications for the Sidewalk Patio Program for the entirety of the city limits, not just downtown.

The program was created to give local businesses the chance to expand their seating, create communal spaces, and encourage social interaction.

Zeel Patel, a City Planner says in a release, “We aim to streamline the process and invigorate our downtown, boosting the economy and creating vibrant public spaces for everyone to enjoy.”

“The Sidewalk Patio Program supports local businesses by expanding outdoor dining options, enhancing the pedestrian experience, and fostering community.”

Restaurants, bars, and cafes with a valid business license and compliance with AGLC standards are welcome to participate in this program in one of four ways.

Businesses can choose from four options provided by the city to create an outdoor space:

Option 1: Small Sidewalk Patio
Option 2: Parklet Patio
Option 3: Full Sidewalk Patio with Re-Routed Sidewalk
Option 4: Partial Sidewalk Patio (no boardwalk sidewalk)
