Provincial Funding

Local MLAs welcome $200,000 of funding to celebrate Senior’s Week

Jun 6, 2024 | 11:24 AM

MLA for Grande Prairie – Wapiti Ron Wiebe and MLA for Grande Prairie Nolan Dyck are ecstatic about two new investments for seniors in the Grande Prairie area.

The provincial government is investing $200,000 into our seniors so they can live with dignity and well-being, and age well at home wherever they please.

The funding is being spilt amongst two groups: $170,000 is going to the Grande Prairie Seniors Outreach MOW, to be used for home and community supports.

MLA Dyck said in a release; “Our United Conservative government’s $170,000 investment, through Health Aging Alberta, will give Grande Prairie seniors the support they need to help them live in their homes for as long as possible.”

$30,000 is going to the Beaverlodge FCSS for the same reasons.

MLA Wiebe said in a separate release; “Beaverlodge FCSS is receiving $30,000 from Alberta’s government, through Healthy Aging Alberta, to expand day-to-day in-home services for seniors. This funding will help give seniors the support they need to live happy, healthy, and independent lives in their communities.”

The funding is being released to coincide with Seniors Week from June 3-9, 2024.

Alberta’s seniors population is expected to grow by 2,500 every month, and is currently near 790,000. It is expected to hit 1 million by 2035.
