Wildfire hazard back up to high in GPFA

Jun 7, 2024 | 12:44 PM

The gusty winds have pushed the wildfire hazard to high in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Fire permit holders are reminded that they must postpone burning, as the wind is forecast to be from the northwest at 40 gusting to 60 km/h on Friday. Burning is not allowed when the wind is above 12 km/h.

Since January 1, 33 fires have burned just under 176 hectares.

The Kleskun Creek Fire that started four kilometres east of Teepee Creek on May 10 is still listed as under control at 1,298 hectares
