Jun 11, 2024 | 11:33 AM

Over half of Alberta NDP members have already cast their ballot to replace party leader Rachel Notley.

Voting began on June 3, and as of June 9, 43,170 members voted for their choice between four candidates. There are 85,144 eligible members of the Alberta NDP.

The four candidates are:

  • Edmonton-Rutherford MLA Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse
  • Calgary-Mountain View MLA Kathleen Ganley
  • Edmonton-Glenora MLA Sarah Hoffman
  • Former Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi

Alberta NDP executive director, Garrett Spelliscy said in a news release; “This early participation highlights the strong engagement and commitment of our members to this leadership race.”

“The early voting underscores the keen interest in this process and the importance our members place on having a say in the future of the next leader of the party and premier of Alberta.”

It’s been a record turnout for the party, having 50 per cent of the total membership voting within the first week. Voting closes at 12 p.m. on June 22.

Spelliscy expects the turnout will remain high.

“This incredible level of engagement from our members is a testament to their dedication and belief in the values and vision of our party.”

A voter helpline (1-888-281-8683) is available as of to assist voting members. If you haven’t received your mailed vote package, the party advises you to call the helpline.

The new leader of the party will be announced on June 22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Calgary at 2 p.m.
