Grade 6 student Kairoh Winiandy of Hillside Community School has received a provincial honour.

Kairoh has been given a 2024 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Student Award.

Nine students from across Alberta; three each in Grade 6, Grade 9, and Grade 11, were saluted at a ceremony on June 10, 2024.

The awards are a partnership between the governor’s office and the Alberta School Boards Association to recognize exceptional students that have shown tremendous growth in developing skills to better themselves with determination, initiative, and independence, says a release from the Grande Prairie Public School Division.

Kairoh says in that same release; “I am very honoured to receive this award.”

“It makes me feel respected and proud of the great things I am doing.”

His nomination says that when Kairoh interacts with other students at Hillside, he treats others the way he would like to be treated and demonstrates a committment to fostering a sense of belonging to serve as an example for others.

He is also involved in multiple sports teams and events, which furthers his sense of community and connections with others.

Hillside principal Josh Hartman says in the same release; “We are incredibly proud of Kairoh.”

“He leas by example daily with kindness, empathy, and compassion and is very deserving of this honour.”

Kairoh is known to consistently put an A+ effort into his schoolwork and strives well in his studies at his young age.
