Joint RCMP arrest leads to break-and-enter suspects in custody

A pair of suspects from Manning are now in custody after break-and-enters in both Grande Prairie and Spirit River.

On June 2, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a break-and-enter in progress and arrived to a stolen truck fleeing the scene.

Officers then began following the vehicle until it it was found abandoned after trying to avoid a tire deflation device.

With help from Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services and the public notifying authorities of suspicious activity on their property; Mounties were then able to locate and arrest both suspects, recovering multiple stolen tools.

The investigation also led RCMP to find the pair broke into an auction yard the night before (June 1) in Spirit River and tried to steal a vehicle.

As a result, 34-year-old Mason Gordon Lane had twelve charges laid against him:

  • Grande Prairie Charges:
    • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
    • Possession of break-in tools
    • Dangerous driving
    • Resist arrest
    • Flight from police
    • Break-and-enter
  • Spirit River Charges:
    • Break-and-enter
    • Theft of motor vehicle
    • Three counts of mischief
    • Failure to comply with an order

Thirty-year-old Chelsea Lauren Goddard also had nine charges laid:

  • Grande Prairie Charges:
    • Possession of stolen property over $5000;
    • Possession of break-in tools
    • Break and enter
  • Spirit River Charges:
    • Break-and-enter
    • Theft of motor vehicle
    • Three counts of mischief
    • Failure to comply with an order

The duo were taken before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody.

Lane will appear in Grande Prairie court June 24, while Goddard’s court date is set for July 8.

Constable Dhaliwal of the Grande Prairie RCMP wanted to thank those in rural Alberta for their assistance in locating these individuals and contacting the RCMP immediately, leading to the quick arrest of these prolific offenders in a media release

He added, “This is a great example of how your Alberta RCMP, using information from the public, can work together to arrest those who could cause harm.”
