AHS offering tips to keep kids safe from open windows

Jun 19, 2024 | 5:50 AM

As the weather heats up and Albertans open more windows to cool off, Alberta Health Services is offering advice to keep children safe around windows and balconies.

AHS says toddlers and preschoolers are at the highest risk of falling, but falls can happen at any age and can result in EMS response and in some cases hospitalization and even death.

The service is encouraging anyone supervising children to be aware of open windows as screens are not strong enough to keep children in, move furniture away from windows or balconies so children can’t climb them, and install safety equipment to keep windows from opening wider than four inches.
