City Hall asking people to fill out municipal census

Jun 19, 2024 | 6:00 AM

City Hall is encouraging people in Grande Prairie to fill out the municipal census.

The city says it must reach the mandatory participation rate of 90 per cent by June 30.

City administration told council at its meeting on Monday that as of that day, 17,000 of 28,000 dwellings in Grande Prairie had filled out their census, a 61 per cent participation rate.

City Hall says in a release that census information is confidential and not shared with other city departments and taking part will not mean someone’s taxes can go up.

City officials add census data is only used for planning services and infrastructure and is not used for assessments or taxation.

The city says in that same release that the census decides how much grant money the city gets from the province and not reaching 90 per cent participation will mean the city si missing out on funding.

PIN numbers to fill out the census online were issued earlier. Anyone who lost their PIN can call the city at 311.

People can also email census@cityofgp.com or click here.

The census takes less than a minute to complete.
