Early eligibility list for 2024 Livestock Tax Deferral program unveiled

The federal government has announced an early list of areas that could be eligible to quality for the Livestock Tax Deferral in 2024.
This includes all the municipalities in northwestern Alberta and northeastern British Columbia.
Livestock Tax Deferral allows producers that are forced to sell part or all of their breeding herd because of drought, flooding or too much moisture to defer part of that income to the following tax year.
The federal government says it has improved the process this year by not only identifying possible eligible municipalities earlier but by also designating buffer zones to make sure producers of the edges of impacted areas are included.
