A Grade 9 student at Grande Prairie Composite High School has been recognized with an award for Indigenous students.

Paige Aubichon is one of 12 recipients of the 2024 Alberta School Boards Association’s Honoring Spirit: Indigenous Student Award, in recognition of her exceptional leadership, courage and commitment to her cultural and educational journey.

Aubichon has been crafting regalia and earrings with her family and community since Elementary School, and in high school she organizes activities for GPCHS’s beading club while advocating for members of the Traditional Paths community dance club.

She received the award June 11 at a ceremony held during Grande Prairie Public School Division’s board meeting, where she was wrapped in her Star Blanket, one of the highest honours in Alberta Indigenous Communities.
