Jun 20, 2024 | 12:15 PM

A grant from Tree Canada’s Community Tree Grants program has been received by the City of Grande Prairie.

The money will enable the city to plant 19 new trees near Holy Cross and IV Macklin Schools. Nine trees were planted in the area in 2020 through the same grant program.

The trees will provide shade for students and enhance the green space for years to come.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a release; “We are pleased to have received this grant from Tree Canada and CN’s EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up Program.

“This project not only beautifies our city but also provides essential benefits for our students and residents, supporting a high quality of life in Grande Prairie.”

The grant was made possible through CN’s EcoConneections – From the Ground Up program, which has helped 252 projects to date, planting over 135,000 trees across Canada from 2012 to 2022.
