Preliminary hearing date set in kidnapping, attempted murder case

Alberta Justice says a preliminary hearing date has been set after a woman was held against her will inside a Grande Prairie home late last year.

The hearing for Joshua Michael Frampton is set for January 23, 2025, in Grande Prairie court.

He is facing two charges of attempted murder, one of kidnapping, two more of uttering threats along with a long list of weapons charges.

Frampton was arrested after an incident on December 20, 2023.

RCMP said at the time they were called to a domestic dispute in the northwest part of Grande Prairie. A woman had been assaulted and a shot had been fired inside the home.

Mounties were able to get inside the home and get the woman out.

Shots were then exchanged between the police and the suspect. The suspect was treated in hospital.

Time served sentence for man charged after vehicle flees from traffic stop

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a vehicle took off from a police stop, only to collide with another police vehicle coming to help, has been given a sentence of time served in jail.

Andrew Moores was given 270 days after pleading guilty to charges of flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle and two others of failure to comply with a release order,

Nine other charges were withdrawn while a stay of proceedings had earlier been in place on another of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Moores and a female youth were arrested after the incident that happened on February 23, 2023.

RCMP said at the time they tried to stop the vehicle because a man inside was wanted on outstanding warrants.

A later search of the vehicle turned up 30 grams of suspected cocaine, cash, brass knuckles, and a loaded Ruger pistol.

Sentencing in October for man charged after shooting in the County of Grande Prairie

Alberta Justice says the man charged after another man suffered what police called a “non life threatening gun shot wound in his back” will be sentenced in October.

Andrew Wayne MacPherson will be sentenced on charges that include aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent October 7 in Grande Prairie court.

He was arrested after a shooting that happened on Valentine’s Day 2022.

Police said at the time it happened at Range Road 72 and Township Road 714. The victim was taken to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for treatment.

MacPherson was arrested a week and a half later

Charges dismissed in fraud, identity theft proceeding

Alberta Justice says charges against a man charged in what police alleged was a fraudulent vehicle purchase have been dismissed in Grande Prairie court.

The charges against Justin Heaven had included fraud over $5,000, identity fraud, and possession of a controlled substance.

RCMP said at the time on April 12, 2023, they got a report of a suspected fraudulent purchase by someone using a stolen identity.

Delivery of the vehicle was intercepted and a suspect arrested.

The vehicle in the transaction was valued at $45,000.

Stay of proceedings in place in workplace fatality

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is in place for a company charged after the death of a worker.

Mainline Construction (2014) Limited had been facing three charges after a workplace death on May 3, 2021, near Sexsmith.

Occupational Health and Safety said at the time the worker was struck and killed by a pipe that was being loaded onto a trailer.

Two of the charges were for failing to ensure health and safety for workers, the other related to equipment.

Man charged after shot fired at residence pleads guilty, pays fine

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a shot was fired at a Grande Prairie residence has pleaded guilty to one charge and paid a $150 fine.

Christopher Chowace-Mitchell admitted to a charge of careless use of a firearm.

Five other charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, were withdrawn.

RCMP said at the time the incident happened on December 29, 2022, at 115 B Street between Westpointe Drive and Range Road 63.
