Jun 28, 2024 | 12:18 PM

The wildfire that started east of Teepee Creek on May 10, 2024, has been extinguished thanks to favourable weather conditions in recent weeks.

The fire was located just 4 kilometers from the small community when it broke out initially.

A combined effort from Alberta Wildfire and the County of Grande Prairie helped significantly with the extinguishing of the blaze, no active fire is currently burning, and there are no hot spots within its perimeter.

The fire burnt 1,298 hectares. It jumped the Smoky River and burned into the east side of the MD of Greenview due to windy conditions.

Assistance from fire crews with the City of Grande Prairie, MD of Greenview, MD of Smoky River, Town of Slave Lake, and Big Lakes County was also received to bring the fire under control at the time.

The area will still continue to be monitored in the coming months, residents are urged to call 9-1-1 to report if they see any signs of smoke.
