Environment Canada reports that 14 areas in Alberta broke heat records on Tuesday, July 9.

In the Beaverlodge area, 33.7 degrees Celsius was reached, beating the old record of 31.6 degrees set only a year ago in 2023.

In Grande Prairie, it hit 34.6 degrees Celsius, beating the 2021 record of 32.2 degrees.

The Swan City was the second hottest place in the province on Tuesday, Jasper took the top spot with a whopping 35.8 degrees Celsius.

Environment Canada says they measure temperature in the shade for the most accurate reading, which means it was much hotter in direct sunlight.

There is a heat warning still in effect across all of Alberta, but temperatures are expected to moderate on Thursday in the northern parts of the province and move south on Friday.
