More heat records broken in Grande Prairie area

Jul 11, 2024 | 9:23 AM

Another day, another heat record broken.

Environment Canada says 29 places across Alberta broke their heat records on July 10, 2024.

It was a blazing day in the province, with heat warnings blanketing the entirety of it.

Beaverlodge reached a sweltering 34.8 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 32.8 degrees set in 2012.

Grande Prairie also beat it’s nearly half-a-century-old record of 31.1 degrees Celsius in 1975, with a roasting 34.2 degrees on Wednesday.

Brooks was the hottest place in all of Alberta though, at a whopping 37.3 degrees!

The heat warnings have since moved on from the Peace Region, and instead drifted east towards Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and northern Ontario. Southern Alberta will endure the heat heading into the weekend.
