South Bear hosting girls U17C fastball provincials this weekend

Twelve teams, including three from the Peace Country, will be taking part in the U17C girl’s fastball provincials this weekend at the South Bear Creek ball diamonds.

The opening ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. Friday. Organizers expect 1,000 people to attend.

The first games follow at 10:30 on Friday morning.

That first set of games will include the Grande Prairie Pirates playing the Valleyview Venom and the High Prairie Sauce taking on St. Paul.

Besides High Prairie and St. Paul, Pool A includes Edmonton, Red Deer, Castor and Olds.

Grande Prairie and Valleyview are in Pool B with Marwayne, Barrhead, Innisfail and Calgary.

Games will go all day Friday, with the last ones starting at 6 p.m.

Games also go all day Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. The last pool round games will start at 5 p.m. with tiebreakers, in any are needed, starting at 7:30.

Play-off games start at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the championship game starting at 2 p.m.

Organizers say this is a free event and is open to the public.
