Technical Search & Rescue ask for public help locating stolen gear

Jul 15, 2024 | 1:03 PM

Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue is asking for the public’s help in recovering $4,000 worth of stolen gear.

On Wednesday, July 10 between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., TSR crews were conducting Swiftwater Awareness training at the 17.5 km Canfor Bridge.

They returned to their vehicles to find gear and personal items missing. The items taken include a red swiftwater dry suit, two chest rigs, an orange Garmin InReach, a Green Garmin GPS, neoprene gloves and other personal belongings.

In a post on social media, TSR says this theft was done by an unknown third party.

Anyone with information about this incident, or the stolen belongings, is asked to contact the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment at 780-830-5700.

Technical Search and Rescue is made up of volunteers, with some purchasing this gear for the team with their own money. However, it won’t affect their ability to help people, according to the Safety Director, Sean Mowat.

“It is truly disheartening to have items stolen from an emergency response organization dedicated to saving lives. Despite this setback, we remain committed and ready to respond to any emergency situation.”
