Fairview emergency department closure cancelled, Central Peace Health Complex emergency department unexpectedly closes

Alberta Health Services says the emergency department at the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River is closed today (Wednesday, July 17).

An unexpected nursing shortage means the emergency department will be closed until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, July 18).

9-1-1 callers with medical emergencies will be re-routed to neighbouring facilities.

Meanwhile, the Fairview Health Complex emergency department will be open Thursday.

Physician coverage has been secured, preventing a planned closure that had been set for 7:00 a.m. Thursday to 7:00 a.m. Friday.
