New crop report from AAI says 72.5 per cent of Peace crops rated good or excellent

The July 16 crop report from Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation says 72.5 per cent of the crops in the Peace were still in good or excellent condition as of that date.

The rating was 74 per cent in the July 9 report.

The per cent ratings by crop are 80.5 for spring wheat, 78.2 for oats, 78.1 for barley, 66.8 for canola and 66.4 for dry peas.

The five-year average for this time of year is 54 per cent, the 10-year average 58.2

Surface soil moisture was at 73 per cent, down from 84 per cent the week before

Also as of July 16, 80.7 per cent of the tame hay was rated good or excellent. As of that same date, 62 per cent of first cut haying had been finished.

Province-wide, 72.9 per cent of the crops were rated good to excellent as of July 16.

The Daily Data Report for July from Environment Canada says the temperature climbed above 30 in Grande Prairie every day from July 15 through July 22.

There was also 12 millimetres of rain, 5.3 on Friday and 6.7 yesterday.

On the traditional scale, 12 millimetres is just under half an inch.
