City of Grande Prairie fire crews assist with Jasper fire

As wildfires burn in Jasper National Park, the City of Grande Prairie is supporting its firefighting efforts.

As of 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, seven firefighters and three emergency response vehicles were deployed to Jasper to assist.

In a post on social media, the City said they are proud to support Jasper’s wildfire fighting efforts and are “committed to standing together during a time of need.”

Last night it was first reported the fire had reached the townsite. As of now, the exact extent of the damage is unknown but posts on social media have shown multiple burnt buildings and structures.

In the same post, the City asked residents to keep their thoughts with the town of Jasper and the safe return of local firefighters.
