Vigen wins 2024 Battle of the Foothills

Jul 29, 2024 | 7:23 AM

Grande Prairie native Chanse Vigen is on cloud nine after winning the World Professional Chuckwagon Association’s running of the Battle of the Foothills Sunday evening.

He captured the High River crown with the best four-day aggregate time of 5:05.37. He won his first Battle of the Foothills back in 2021.

Outriders Ethan Motowylo and Rory Armstrong were also championship winners alongside Vigen’s outfit.

Vigen says he was pleasantly surprised with his WPCA win after making changes in his horses lineup.

“I felt like we did a really good job in managing our workload in the barn and some key horses only had to run once here (High River) so I’m excited to have some fresh key horses for Strathmore.”

He says its always nice to “get a W.”

“It was good to see a big crowd out there all weekend, we had good weather, the fans were good here… it’s been an exciting show.”

Although fresh off a win, he cannot forget how much work it has taken to get to this point in the 2024 season.

Vigen says it’s been a hard year for himself.

It started off on the wrong foot at the Grande Prairie Stompede season opener where he was reigning 2023 champion. His outfit struggled the first night on the track with a no time, but redeemed hisself with top finishes on Day 3 and 4.

“It’s just a deep crop of drivers and outfits this year.”

“One to eight (in the standings), it’s all very tight as far as the points are concerned and we have a lot of running left so, probably gonna be more leaderboard changes as the year goes by.”

On top of winning the weekend in High River, Vigen also posted the best time of the entire show with a 1:15.39.

The WPCA Pro Tour will head to Strathmore starting on Friday, August 2, for the Strathmore Stampede Championship.
