Jul 30, 2024 | 8:35 AM

PARIS — Canada will play for gold in women’s rugby sevens after upsetting Australia 21-12 in semifinal action at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.

Charity Williams, Asia Hogan-Rochester and Piper Logan all scored tries for Canada, and captain Oliva Apps made good on all three of her conversion attempts.

Australia’s Sariah Paki and Maddison Levi each scored a try, and Tia Hinds went 1 for 2 on conversion attempts.

The Canadians will now face top-ranked New Zealand in the gold-medal match Tuesday night, while Australia battles the United States for bronze.

New Zealand throttled the Canadians 33-7 in pool play on Sunday.

Canada’s best result in women’s rugby sevens came in 2016 when the team won bronze at the Rio Games, the first time the discipline was included in the Olympics.
