Auto racing, off-road poker rally, mud bogs and bull riding fund raiser among local sports happening this weekend

Auto Racing

There is racing at the Hythe Motor Speedway Saturday starting at 5 p.m. and Sunday starting at 2 p.m.

The weekend will include Run Your Junk, Starter Stocks, Elite Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds and a LEGENDS Special.

Poker Rally

The Wapiti Off-Road Association is hosting a poker rally on Saturday.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the rally starting at noon at the Wapiti Off-Road Dunes staging area.

Cost is $30 per hand with additional hands available for $10. Anyone taking part must have a $20 association membership.

Mud Bogs

The Stacy Krahn Memorial Mud Bogs are set for Saturday and Sunday in Wembley.

Gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday with the show starting at 1 p.m.

Gates open at 11 a.m. Sunday with the show starting at noon.

Fund Raiser

The 5th annual Rank Pen Buck Off bull riding is set for Saturday.

It will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Lambert Arena in the Dimsdale area.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with the riding starting at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per person with kids 15 and under getting in free.

There is also a critter scramble for kids 12 and under.

Money raised will go to the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention and the Sunrise House Youth Emergency Shelter.

Horse Racing

Horse racing Saturday and Sunday at Evergreen Park.

Post time both days will be 1:15.

There will be eight races each day.

This weekend is also Memorial/Pioneer weekend

Twenty-five people who helped get horse racing going in this area will be recognized by having their names shown on a big screen located in the Gordon Badger Stadium concourse.

Sunday’s race card will feature the Bert Delaney and Fred Drysdale Memorial Races.

Wheatbelt Baseball League

Rycroft now leads the Wheatbelt Baseball League final 2-1 after a 9-5 win Thursday night in Manning.

The Rage will host Game 4 Tuesday starting at 7:15 p.m.

Game 5, if needed, will be played in Manning on Saturday, August 17, starting at 4 p.m.

Rugby

The Grande Prairie Centaurs are on the road for a game in Edson Saturday.

The Sirens and Centaurs will host Super Saturday August 17.

The Sirens will play the Pirates at noon, the Centaurs play the Pirates at 2 p.m., then the Sirens play the Druids at 4 p.m.
